The Creative Arts- Action in October
The Creative Art's Faculty has been action packed this October!
We have had showcases, concerts and exhibitions for IB and IGCSE students from all College departments- Visual Arts, Music, Film Studies, Drama & Theatre Arts and Dance.
Founders' Day on the 1st of October was an example of how all departments work together to bring an enjoyable, dynamic and creative environment for everyone.

In October, the Drama Department also put on a spectacular showing of the Junior Play- Feo

Music- October Edition!
Music has been action packed with concerts, showcases, assemblies and full day events.
The OG Club Concert
On the 7th October, St George's College Music Department hosted a concert displaying the hard work and talent of Senior students. We had solo performances from Acoustic rock pieces to jazz vocal items. The Senior Vocal Ensemble and the St Georgian Community Choir also starred in the show performing choral pieces. It was a successful event with everyone enjoying the beverages and delicious empanadas provided by the OG Club. A big thank you to David and Johnnie for inviting St George's College to hold a concert in this beautiful venue.
There is another concert scheduled for next year at the OG Club, so keep your eye on the 2012 calendar!

Founders' Day- The Music Stage!
The Music Department this year took Music on Founders' Day to the next level. On Saturday, 1st October from 10am to 4pm there was not stop music playing all day on the outdoor stage. The atmosphere was the best part with parents, students and friends gathering around, eating helados or panchos and enjoying the many different musical items presented on the main stage. We had special guest bands, An amazing Beatles cover band, St Hilda's College student band and ex St George's students performing as well has prep instrumental students, Senior Vocal Ensemble, ES3 student Band, Senior bands, Boarder's Jamming band, solo vocal and instrumental performances and the St Georgian Community Choir!
We also offered African drumming workshops hosted by Mr Simon Roberts which were very fun and highly interactive for all ages.
A big big thank you to our sound man (sonidista) Hernan- He worked all day in the sun and created a seamless event- Thank you so much!
And thank you to everyone for being a fantastic audience- the day had 'una buena onda'!

We are now getting ready for the Music Inter house Competition on Tuesday, 29th November and the St George's College Woodstock- student music celebrations.

Drama & Theatre Arts!
Poli 3 IB candidates and ES4 IGCSE candidates have now finished their Theatre Arts and Drama courses respectively. Over the past two years they have produced some remarkable practical work. We now wish them the best in their remaining exams.
Feo
On the 13th and 14th of September, ES1 and ES2 students presented Feo, a devised performance loosely based on Hans Christian Andersen’s The Ugly Duckling. Through a series of vignettes, the piece explored the physical and emotional changes brought about by puberty, the changing relations between children and their parents during adolescence, nascent existential questions, and the tensions inherent in the search to fit in and the statement of individuality, among other issues.
Last week, ES3 IGCSE candidates recorded their first piece of devised coursework inspired by U2’s Some Days Are Better Than Others. Both the themes and formal qualities of their scripts were particularly impressive. They are now beginning work on their first text-based piece of coursework.
Last but no least, Houses have now began work on this year´s Drama Interhouse which will see ES5 students direct ES1 and ES2 students in productions of The False Turk in twelve minutes, a short play in the style of seventeenth-century commedia dell’arte.

Visual Arts- Congratulations!
We are very happy that our students , Magdalena Navajas, of P3, Taciana Peric, Chiara Guillemi y Luisina Frega, of ES 5, won awards in the intercollegiate competition organized by Nazareth College in Quilmes Transport Museum.

Music Update!
The Music Department here at St George's College has been full of activity over August and September.
Our second Trimester ended with ES3 to Poli 3 doing some major in-class performances (A webisode to come soon!) and ES1 and ES2 exploring how to play keyboards.

But the concert was so wonderful and full of incredibly talented singing. It truly showcased the hard work put in by all students and also parents and staff.
It was wonderful to have the new St Georgian Community Choir perform for the first time- Well done!
And it was excellent to share the evening with the talented students and staff from St George's North.
Very much looking forward to putting this event on again in 2012!

Drama Update
September will see the culmination of many important and exciting projects in the Drama & Theatre Arts Department.
Both ES4 and Poli 3 students are now nearing the completion of their courses. IGCSE candidates have now filmed monologues by Marivaux, Ionesco and Beckett among others for PAPER 2 of the Drama exam, producing their best work to date, and are now busy creating yet another group devised piece. Poli 3 IB candidates are now embarking on their last piece of coursework: an oral exam which amounts to an overview of their extraordinarily varied and bold work during the last two years. Below are some pictures of Poli 3 IB students acting in their final works.
The stop-motion choreographies being created by ES1 students also merit mentioning. This project, which will also involve make-up design, is shaping very nicely indeed and bodes very well for their future work.
Last, but certainly not least, Feo, this year’s Junior Play will be performed on Tuesday 13th and Wednesday 14th of September at 8 pm in the Centenary Hall. The piece, devised by ES1 and ES2 students, takes Hans Christian Andersen’s The Ugly Duckling as a starting point to then explore the physical, mental and emotional changes that occur during puberty and adolescence. Truly, a play for the whole family since between the ages of 12 and 17, for example, a parent ages as much as 20 years.
