What a year so far!

After a hectic start to the second part of the year, I thought I would take time to reflect on our year so far. It is only when things become calm that we as a faculty are able to sit back and wonder how we had the time to fit so much into such a small time frame.

In the Prep School(the link to theirs and the new kindergarten blog are available from this page) Art and Music have enjoyed an outstanding year and it is wonderful to be in and around the newly inaugurated prep building to see the fantastic artwork and to hear our students playing orchestral instruments, singing and generally beginning to secure our future status as the pinnacle of arts education in South America.
The chapel choir is also going through a period of regeneration and transition and an elite group of chorister scholars has been introduced to the prep school to form valuable links in strengthening the college chapel choir.
We have also moved into phase three of artist in residence scheme and students in college, prep and kindergarten have all enjoyed both fine arts and dance over the last two years as an enrichment to their already existing curriculum. Anastasia Feigin joined us early in August to enthuse Dance to all of our students and I look forward to posting some information about her in the coming days.
In College also, creative arts continues to go from strength to strength and whilst students take time to prepare for important examinations, they can look back on their experiences in the following events up to the winter holiday 2012.
Between February and July, these have included:-
  • A Gala Music Concert
  • ES1 and 2 Dance presentations
  • The College Musical
  • The Prep School Musical
  • Collective community acts of worship in the College Chapel
  • Musical performances in various Actos and assemblies
  • Performances in Book Week
  • Cultural visits and hosting for two schools in the United States
  • Visits from two Choirs from Germany
  • Student participation in the LAHC Choir in Santiago Chile
  • The IB Senior Play
  • Participation in the ESSARP Senior Choir Festival
  • The Big Sing 2012
As we move into the second, equally hectic, part of the year, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all parents and SGQ staff and community members for their continued support. But I would like to mention in particular the wonderful team of 15 staff within the creative arts faculty who make these things possible. But most of all our students  - they are blossoming, flourishing and growing by the day.......it's an amazing thing to be part of the development of so many.
Please see below some selected Feb - July 2012 highlights in photographs.
With best wishes

The Mad Month of Music!

It has been an action packed couple of months in the Music Department! It has been wonderful to see students, teachers and parents getting involved and celebrating Music together!

This year we directed the Musical Production. It was a huge success and all 80 students involved are to be congratulated on their amazing commitment and dedication to putting on a great show! Every night was a sell out performances! Thanks to everyone's support and encouragement- We had a great time!

We also hosted our annual vocal concert- 'The Big Sing,' which was bigger and better than the previous year!
There were guest choirs from La Plata and the 6 choirs we have between Prep School and the College. The Georgian Community Choir also showcased some of the pieces they had been rehearsing. Special guests and students also performed solo items and again it was wonderful to see the support of parents, staff and students with over 600 people attending the event!

More wonderful extra curricular activities and concerts are to come with the St George's College Music Showcase at the Old Georgian Club in Capital, on Friday, 31st August. Doors open at 18:30, the concert starts at 19:30.
All reservations need to be made with the OG Club-

We also have our Junior Music Performance Tour (Gira de Musica) to Cordoba in September. This is an opportunity for our ES1 and ES2 students to showcase the performances they have been working on in classes as well as a choir. The 26 boys and girls attending the trip will be performing in a Sunday Mass Service in a Church and hosting 2 concerts at 2 International schools in Rio Cuarto & Cordoba City. We are busily preparing and rehearsing and very excited to be sharing our music with other schools in another province within Argentina.
