ES1 students, currently working on mime, are gearing towards their end of unit project: the rehearsal and presentation of a 5-10 minute mime scenario involving eccentric characters at a party.
ES2 students are working on scenes from Anton Chekhov’s (1860 – 1904) comic curtain-raiser The Proposal. What I have seen so far bodes well for the standards of the 2011 Junior Play in September.
ES3 students are devising their first pieces of IGCSE coursework, focusing on technical aspects such as pacing, contrast and tension in characterization.
ES4 students are hard at work preparing for PAPER 1 of their Drama IGCSE which they will be sitting in June. Somewhat against the clock, they are devising interesting work that makes the most of production aspects such as sound, lighting, the use of projections, etc.
ES5 and Polimodal 3 IB candidates are rehearsing this year’s ambitious IB Play. The impressive cast includes both seasoned performers like Julián Glüzmann and Estanislao Miller and newcomers like Agostina Coniglio and Agustina Zelalia. As a treat, and to celebrate the remarkable work done by the ensemble in last year’s IB Play, below are some stills from the 2010 IB Play:
Aside from working on the IB Play, ES5 students are devising a piece for the May 2 School Assembly on issues relating to the representation of the female body in fashion magazines. Of particular interest so far is the design work the students have done towards the project. Last year’s Feet Remix, inspired by a play by the Italian Futurist writer Filippo Tommaso Marinetti (1876 – 1944) truly raised the bar for such public presentations.
Finally, Polimodal 3 students are already working on their Independent Projects, which range from costume and make-up design inspired by Antonin Artaud’s (1896 – 1948) Theatre of Cruelty for a monologue on Mayan prophecies to acting projects based on Georg Büchner’s (1813 – 1837) proto-expressionist masterpiece Woyzeck. Here are some stills from last year’s Independent Project by Marta Bovone and Yamila Chiappe:
